An ode to friendship

They say in life, it is about the journey not the destination.

The same is true with friendship.

The road from total strangers from different corners of the world to friends so close it feels like family is paved with tiny moments.

The decision to sit next to a stranger and talk to them

or

Putting your life into their hands by riding on the back of their motorbike.

The complex calculations involved with splitting a bill 10 ways or arguing over what film to watch. Even sharing your toothpaste.

It's not telling someone what they want to hear but what they need to hear.

Or offering a hug without words being required.

Sure sometimes the places we stayed stank or the beds were full of ants or the tent was made for two not 3.

Maybe sometimes we couldn't understand the music but that didn't stop us from dancing. Maybe sometimes the navigator sucked but we still found our way.

The unplanned things make for the best stories.

And your best friends make the greatest characters.
