And so the spring semester begins. If you note the date of publication for this post you would notice that it was actually produced prior to the spring semester commencing. It's probably a sign that the workload described in the assessment overview email has scared me enough to start working on assessment 2 before the classes have even began.

Welcome to my reflective blog for the 2019 spring semester! If you have already taken a look around the blog you would've noticed that it was initially created for a similar assesment task during my exchange semester in Vietnam last year. So lucky for me I don't need to give myself headaches about designing the blog from scratch.

The purpose of these reflective posts are to

"Respond to set tasks, activities and course content. " Dr Ella Chorazy, Assmnt Overview 2019

As there isn't much in the way of course content yet, in this post I will respond to the assessment briefs, give some predictions for the coming semester and just give a general feeling of my headspace going into the course next week.

ASSESSMENT 1: Visual Storytelling. Sunday 24th November.

I have previously completed photojournalism in my first semester and to this day it is probably my most favorite subject I have done. If this project is anything similar to that then I am really looking forward to it. The task involves producing a visual narrative using 3 images. I'm interested to see what other guidelines we will get. Will it have to be about a person in particular? The timeframe for this one is really really short, it is due not even a full week after the first class so time management would be key for this project. I don't want to have to spend long deciding on a topic or getting in contact with a subject. I'd be pretty interested to do story about my home city of Frankston. It has a pretty negative reputation across Melbourne and after longterm turmoil within its council the situation is not great, the majority of it's mainstreet is vacant or abandoned with squatters taking residence in a number of locations. Would definitely be interesting to shoot however safety is definitely worth considering in some areas.

ASSESSMENT 2: Reflective Blog. 10x300 word posts

1 down, 9 to go. I feel the hardest part of this assessment will be not falling behind. If I continually post, this should go swimmingly. The assessment overview also mentions a multi media element is required in each post. I'm curious as to what that means. Just a photo, a gif, a map, a video?

I'm sure I'll work it out. I enjoy blogging so this assessment shouldn't be a biggie.

ASSESSMENT 3: Group Project.

I'll be honest I have given this project the least thought so far probably due to it being due last. I like group projects most of the time so I am looking forward to this one a bit. Hopefully the intensive nature of this course will build a pretty strong rapport between all the class members so choosing a team won't be a big issue.

All in all I'm kind of excited to begin this semester. Just a little bit annoyed that it will cost me working days and opportunities to earn money. But hopefully it means a better job in the long run... right?

Until next time,

-T
